Program Details

The Church Music program partners with students to provide them with a lifelong outlet for joyful aesthetic expression and exciting musical careers in church settings.

Area-specific program tracks such as organ, choral, piano, guitar, instrumental, and composition ensure that students are ready to lead both contemporary and liturgical worship. Custom, self-designed degree tracks are also available.

Your growth in the program will be spurred by faculty support, including private lessons throughout your chosen track. Every student in the program receives an internship opportunity at a Twin Cities area church as well.

After completing the program, many students transition to graduate work in music or move directly into church worship roles. Students may also add the Director of Parish Music certification by completing the Lutheran Theology minor, compiling a portfolio, and passing entrance and exit interviews with the Department of Theology and Ministry. This leads to rostered church worker status as a Commissioned Minister in The Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod.
