Music is an active part of learning at CSP. Students seeking a music major or minor may specialize in performance, music education (vocal and instrumental), music business, church music (Director of Parish Music), theory-composition, or music history. Additionally, private instruction in voice and instrumental music is available from some of the finest talents in the Twin Cities.

CSP’s Theatre & Dance program provides exciting and challenging educational experiences for students as well as high-quality theatrical experiences for audiences. By providing a rich blend of traditional classroom and hands-on laboratory and performing opportunities, faculty prepare students for entry into professional careers in theatre or graduate study. Participation in theatre also supports and strengthens students in other fields, such as education, business, or ministry.

Performing arts groups at CSP include Christus Chorus, Jubilate Chapel Choir, Shades of Harmony Gospel Choir, Opera Workshop, Vox 9 Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, Handbell Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Chapel Band, Pit Orchestra, and Chamber String Ensemble.

Buetow Music Center Auditorium
The 27,235-square-foot Buetow Memorial Music Center was named in honor of the late Herbert P. Buetow, a St. Paul industrialist, philanthropist, and Lutheran layman. The facility houses the entire music department and features a 406-seat auditorium; three rehearsal rooms for choir, band, and chamber ensembles; three classrooms; 16 private piano/instrument practice rooms; four organ practice rooms; two electronic MIDI labs; 16 faculty offices/studios; and a three-manual concert organ designed by Hermann Schlicker. The Buetow Auditorium, which was completely renovated in the summer of 2016, features a 43 rank Schlicker pipe organ and Steinway grand piano.
E.M. Pearson Theatre
Built in 1994, the E.M. Pearson Theatre features a 350-seat flexible proscenium theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, an 80-foot fly gallery above the stage, and an elevator orchestra pit. The 35,205-foot facility also includes a dance studio, custom and scenery studios, rehearsal studio, theatrical classrooms, and offices.
