Diagnostic Medical Sonography Admissions

Once submitted, you can follow your application process through the application portal.

• Fall Semester – Application must be submitted by August 1 and all documents received by August 15.
• Spring Semester – Application must be submitted by December 1 and all documents received by December 15.
• Summer Semester – Application must be submitted by April 1 and all documents received by April 15.

Beginning summer 2024: Official high school transcripts must meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 based on a 4.0 system.

High school transcripts should include at minimum your grades completed through the first term of your senior year.

Applicants will be required to review and sign a DMS Acknowledgment form ensuring that they understand the requirements of the program and clinical options.

Please note that if you have completed less than 20 college credits, you will need to also submit your completed official high school transcript.

College transcripts should be final transcripts with all grades posted. High school transcripts should include at minimum your grades completed through the first term of your senior year.

Applicants will be required to review and sign a DMS Acknowledgment form ensuring that they understand the requirements of the program and clinical options

Required prerequisite courses must have a minimum grade of “B” and will need to have been taken within seven years of application to the program. Each prerequisite may be repeated one time to meet the required grade and GPA requirements.

• BIO 117: Human Anatomy & Physiology for Sonography
• PHS 112: Introductory Physics for Biological and Health Sciences I
• MAT 165: Quantitative Reasoning for Health Care Professionals
• DMS 100: Introduction to Ultrasound
• ENG121: College Writing (a “B” grade is not required, no latency for transfer credits for this course)

• Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) must be submitted with a score of 70% or higher. CSP ranks applicant by their overall TEAS percentile.
• Complete the TEAS exam within one year prior to your application to the DMS Program (only two attempts allowed per year).

Complete the TEAS Exam Through CSP

The TEAS Exam is offered through CSP virtually. This is open to anyone to register, including CSP pre-DMS and non-CSP students. Students can also complete the TEAS exam outside of CSP.

• Cost of exam is $100. Applicant will pay upon registration.
• Applicants will receive an email prior to the exam (12 hours) with a link to log onto for the dry run. Check spam folder if email is not received.

The TEAS exam requirement will be waived with the completion of prerequisites at Concordia University, St. Paul that meet the program requirement standards or if you have earned a previous post-secondary degree.

Students who have been enrolled in a Sonography program and completed sonography courses at another college or university must submit recommendation letters from two sonography faculty at their previous institution. Most sonography coursework taken at previous institutions will not transfer into CSP’s sonography program but will be evaluated by the DMS director if the student is deemed to have left their previous program in good standing.

This program is a full-time day program. Once in the sonography program, it is recommended students prioritize coursework and minimize work commitments. The program requires dedicated practice time to ensure competencies are achieved. If a student falls behind, it can be challenging to catch up.

Once the program begins, it is 5 semesters in length and will go through the summer. There is no part-time option available.

The General Concentration is a hybrid model – primarily online classes with labs at our campus in St. Paul, MN.

The Echo Concentration is all in-person – classes and labs at or near our campus in St. Paul, MN.

This is a specialized two-year Adult Undergraduate program. It is not designed to be a traditional on-campus program and does not include on-campus housing options.

General Concentration:

• The Sonography program requires 960 hours of clinical training that will be completed during the last six months of the program.
• Clinical training will likely require placement at a site outside of the Twin Cities area or outside of Minnesota. Clinical sites vary year-to-year and the University makes every effort to secure sites that allow for the best learning environments for each individual student.
• The Program Director and Clincial Coordinator will assign students to a clinical facility. Consideration will be given to the site’s needs and student’s desires based on availability.
• Students may not turn down a site.
• Housing will be arranged by the student.

Echo Concentration:

• Clinical training for the Echo concentration will be completed throughout the program at clinical sites in the Twin Cities metro area.

General education courses do not need to be completed prior to admission to the sonography program. They can be taken at any point during the program prior to graduation.
