Southeast Asian Teacher Licensure Program (SEAT)

History of the Program

Since 1998, CSP has used university resources and grants from the Minnesota legislature, to successfully prepare licensed teachers through its Southeast Asian Teacher licensure program (SEAT). The program supports candidates from underrepresented populations – initially those who identified themselves as “Southeast Asians” and later to all candidates who are of color or Indigenous. The partnership between CSP and the state of Minnesota provides an investment in each candidate’s future and provides a “circle of support” from entrance to the program through the first year of teaching.

Program Goals and Operations

• Increase the number of fully licensed teachers in Minnesota who identify as “of color” or Indigenous
• Provide a culturally responsive education for all candidates
• Provide the support necessary to afford candidates the opportunity to successfully complete all requirements for licensure – tuition assistance and support through advising, tutoring, and mentoring through group activities.
• Provide mentoring for SEAT graduates who are first-year teachers through the Circle of Support Program.

SEAT Requirements

• Admitted to Concordia University
• Minnesota resident
• Demonstrated financial need through the FAFSA
• SEAT application
• Interview with the Program Director
